A nice side-benefit of this is that it causes a selection bias for employees who are satisfied by the work, and how it brings meaning to them—rather than trying to make extra money.

And if they aren’t already wired that way, for some I suspect it causes their finite motivational energy to be concentrated toward finding meaning, instead of money.
