I think this is a good opportunity to think about how it could have been better, but we don’t have enough information to blame the card for the blunder.

Now that I’ve thought more about it, it may also be premature to blame the emcee. The producers of the show probably could have done more to prevent the blunder. Was there a rehearsal? Was the method of announcing the winners discussed beforehand? We don’t know.

What I’m cautioning against is blaming the card design outright. It makes it hard for designers to be taken seriously when they can’t think more pragmatically about the true cause of an error.
